One of the most surprising things for me about Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was just how difficult the game was. Look the story is whacky, but it has that Mario charm and it is fun. Four of them are turned into half Rabbid and half Mario characters, but the Mushroom Kingdom is in peril thanks to this machine causing chaos. The basics of what happened are that the Rabbids are messing around and they end up transported to the Mushroom Kingdom. It manages to have that classic Mario charm and the craziness of the Rabbids combined very well. The story that, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is telling is a lot of fun. Putting the Mario characters in a turn based tactics game was never something I knew I needed in my life until this game was released. I mean, who could have ever predicted that we would get a mash up game featuring Mario characters and Rabbids characters? Even more surprising than that is Nintendo was willing to work with another company like Ubisoft and let them take the reigns for the project. I was really happy to see this change in place, as I felt the co-op challenges were inevitably undermined in the end, as you steamroll through them with high-level characters.Īnyway, Johnny and I went hands-on with the new mode this week and you can see how we got on in the video below. As I look at my Nintendo Switch collection, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is one of the games that really does stand out from the crowd. Unlike Mario Rabbids' co-op multiplayer you'll also need to select from a variety of loadouts when putting together your squad, rather than carrying over the weapons and abilities you've unlocked in your singleplayer campaign. However, scattered around the map you'll also find boxes containing tickets that can be used to unlock additional actions - the player that control these boxes, controls the game. Versus Mode plays a little differently to the core game, with players being limited to just a handful of actions per turn, helping prevent one player from immediately dominating the game with an entire squad's worth of dashing, techniques and weapon shots. Mario Rabbids will be updated with a new competitive multiplayer mode as of tomorrow, allowing two players to go head-to-head locally.
